This series of 4 works was a hoot to make. I basically thought “what would it have been like if archeologists in the 19th century had the fame normally reserved for athletes and rock stars and someone made a collectible series of shadow boxes to commemorate their most famous digs?”. So I bought a bunch of 19th and early 20th century black and white portraits and started playing around. Featuring “no. 17 – Aleksina in Toumilat”, “no. 106 – Edvard in Baracoa”, “no. 43 – Marie Celeste in Upernavik” and “no. 3 – Sybastian in Cambaya”.
