2008 – V.S.L.M.

V.S.L.M. stands for “Votum Solvit Liber Merito”, Latin for “he has fulfilled his vow, willingly, as it should”, a quote often found on Roman votive tablets, altars and statues. And just like those, this piece is closely linked to my personal flavour of religion (I might talk about that some more in a future blog). The 21 tiny clay figurines were made in 2008, the cabinet I commissioned later from Saskia Bakker, made from a felled tree in my city.

Various materials.
